Helping children become readers

Published by Masfadat International School · Lagos and Ibadan

Choosing a school is a meaningful decision. Families want their children to be known, supported, challenged, and prepared for the next stage of life. At Masfadat International School, our work begins with that responsibility. We believe education should develop knowledge and character together, while giving each learner room to grow at a healthy pace.

Learning begins with trust

Children learn best when they feel safe enough to ask questions and make mistakes. A strong school environment gives learners clear expectations, caring adults, and routines they can understand. It also gives parents a reliable way to communicate with teachers and school leaders. When home and school cooperate, children receive a consistent message: learning matters, effort is noticed, and asking for help is a strength.

Our programmes cover Creche, Nursery, Primary, Junior Secondary, and Senior Secondary education. That range allows families to plan a learner’s development across several stages while still paying attention to the different needs of each age group. Early learners need play, language, movement, and care. Primary learners need strong foundations in reading, mathematics, science, and social understanding. Older learners need increasing independence, subject depth, and preparation for further education.

Small habits create lasting progress

Progress is often built through simple habits repeated over time. Reading a little every day, explaining how an answer was reached, preparing school materials the night before, and talking about the day at home can all strengthen learning. These habits do not require expensive equipment. They require attention, encouragement, and a willingness to let children try.

Families can support progress by asking open questions instead of only checking scores. Ask what was interesting, what was difficult, what the learner would like to practise, and what help is needed. This creates a fuller picture of development. Marks are important, but they are one part of a learner’s story. Confidence, discipline, communication, creativity, and kindness also matter.

Values and achievement belong together

Academic ambition should be joined with responsibility. Children should learn to use knowledge well, respect other people, care for their environment, and make thoughtful decisions. Masfadat’s values-led approach reflects the belief that education should prepare learners not only for examinations, but also for family life, work, community, and leadership.

Our motto, “In God, We Trust,” expresses the moral foundation we want the school community to carry. It is a reminder that education is a trust. Teachers, parents, and learners each have a part to play in protecting that trust through honesty, effort, respect, and care.

Begin with a conversation

Every family’s situation is different. Parents may be considering a first school place, a transfer, a new programme, or a senior secondary pathway. The best first step is to contact the school, explain what the learner needs, and ask the questions that matter to your family. Our admissions team can provide current information about available places, requirements, schedules, and fees.
